Projekts uzsākts 2004.gadā ar Latvijas vides aizsardzības fonda atbalstu, taču 2009.gadā finansējums vairs netika piešķirts. Izrādās, ka nekur citur Eiropas Savienībā netiek apgredzenoti tik daudz ziemeļu gulbju kā Latvijā, un tas lielākoties ir Dmitrija entuziasma nopelns. Lai līdz šim veiktais darbs neietu postā un pētījums varētu turpināties, viņam vajadzīgs atbalsts.
